Trail up.
Drift down.
Repeat.
Highland Driftway pairs the shaded ridgelines above Khao Lak with the quieter stretches of Andaman coastline below. Day hikes, coastal cabana stays, and e-bike routes — picked for the day's conditions, not a fixed brochure.
Two landscapes. One platform.
The hills behind Khao Lak hold more than most visitors find. Rubber-tree groves give way to dense dipterocarp forest; certain ridges look out over three bays at once. We've been running routes up here since 2019 — long enough to know which paths hold shade past 10am and which dry streams fill after an afternoon shower.
Down at sea level the pace is different. The beaches north of Khao Lak town see far fewer visitors than the resort strips further south — some days you'll share a stretch of sand with a handful of local fishing boats and not much else. Our cabana base sits in this quieter zone, a short ride from the forest trailheads.
We keep the group sizes small — usually six walkers per guide on the hike days — and all route decisions get made that morning after checking weather and trail conditions. No fixed itinerary is handed over at breakfast.
How we organise the trip
Three ways to experience the Phang Nga region — separately or combined across a longer stay.
Guided Hikes
Full-day routes through coastal forest and up to ridge viewpoints. A local guide, packed lunch, and transport to the trailhead are included. The path is chosen each morning.

Coastal Base
Two nights in a quiet beach cabana — breakfast included, loungers on the sand, and a short guide to nearby paths and swimming coves. Good for rest days between activity days.

E-Bike Routes
A daily pedal-assist hire with helmet, lock, and a printed route card to viewpoints and quiet lanes. Fitting and a short handling check at pickup. Back by evening.

A few things that make a difference to how the experience feels on the ground.
Morning route selection
Trail and route choices are finalised each morning based on weather, shade availability, and group preference. No itinerary is locked weeks in advance.
Small groups
Hike groups run at a maximum of six walkers to one guide. The pace adapts to the people in the group, not a schedule printed for a coach party.
Local knowledge
Most of our guides grew up in Phang Nga province. They know which viewpoints face west for the afternoon light and where a quiet roadside stall does good kao man gai.
Forest trails above the resorts
The interior of Phang Nga is largely unchanged farmland and forest — a different world from the beach road twenty minutes below. On a clear morning, the walking from Tambon Bang Muang toward the ridge above Sai Rung waterfall takes you through rubber and banana groves before the trees close in properly around 400m.
All hike days include a packed Thai lunch prepared that morning and filtered water for the trail.

A beach base that doesn't feel like a resort
The cabana property sits on a beach that doesn't appear on most tourist maps. Breakfast is served on the porch; there's no pool, no lobby, and no tour desk. Hosts keep a handwritten guide to the surrounding paths, swimming spots, and local eating — updated this month.
Two nights includes daily breakfast and use of beach loungers.

Our approach
Conditions first, schedule second
Southern Thailand has two distinct seasons and the transition between them can be unpredictable. We read the morning before committing to a route — not the calendar month.
Community ties, not transactional tourism
Lunch ingredients come from the Takua Pa market. Rental bikes are serviced by a workshop on Phetkasem Road. We keep spend local where it makes sense.
Honest information, no pressure
If a particular date doesn't suit a hike — because of weather, trail conditions, or group fit — we'll say so. Better to reschedule than send people up a ridge in the wrong conditions.

From recent visitors
"The hike was better than anything we'd booked through a resort desk. Our guide knew every shortcut, every shady rest spot. The lunch was genuinely good — proper Thai food, not a sad sandwich."

"We took the e-bikes for two days and covered far more ground than expected. The route card pointed us to a viewpoint above a bay — nothing on Google Maps. The bikes were in great shape."
André R.
Lyon · April 2025
"The cabana is not for people expecting hotel comforts. It's simple, quiet, and on a beach that felt entirely untouched. Breakfast was good, the porch is perfect at sunrise. We'll come back for a longer stay."
