Accessibility

1. Our commitment

Highland Driftway is committed to making this website accessible to as wide a range of people as possible. We want visitors to be able to use and understand the site regardless of the device they use, the assistive technology they rely on, or any disability they may have. We review the site periodically against recognised accessibility standards and aim to address issues when they are identified.

2. Conformance target

We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA across all pages of this website. WCAG 2.1 is the current internationally recognised benchmark for web accessibility, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

3. Measures we have taken

To work toward WCAG 2.1 AA conformance, we have:

  • Used semantic HTML elements throughout (headings, landmarks, lists, labels, and details for FAQ content)
  • Designed all text and interactive elements to meet a minimum 4.5:1 colour contrast ratio against their backgrounds
  • Made all interactive components (navigation, buttons, form fields, toggles) keyboard-accessible using standard Tab and Enter/Space controls
  • Added descriptive, context-specific alt text to all content images
  • Labelled all form inputs with associated <label> elements
  • Used aria-label attributes on icon-only controls (social links, burger button, cookie toggle)
  • Avoided purely decorative motion; any hover transitions use durations at or below 0.4 seconds
  • Ensured all page content is visible and usable without JavaScript
  • Set the correct lang attribute on the <html> element on each page

4. Known limitations

While we aim for full WCAG 2.1 AA compliance, a small number of known limitations exist at the time of this statement:

  • The embedded Google Maps iframe on the main page is a third-party element. Its internal accessibility depends on Google's implementation, which we cannot control. A descriptive heading and a visible address are provided alongside the iframe.
  • Some content images sourced as placeholders during development may not yet have final alt text reflecting the real image content; this will be addressed when images are replaced during deployment.

We do not consider these limitations to prevent access to any core content or function of the site.

5. Feedback and reporting

If you encounter an accessibility issue on this site — a page you cannot navigate, a control you cannot operate, or content you cannot perceive — we want to know. Please contact us:

We aim to acknowledge accessibility reports within 5 working days and to provide a response or resolution within 30 days.
